Taking care of your own marketing can be a daunting task, especially if you are not a marketing professional. No worries because with a little research and a whole lot of creativity you could be on your way to becoming a marketing guru. Following are three tips to get you started on the right track:
Knowing who you are trying to reach, otherwise known as your target market, is imperative when it comes to any marketing. You will need to know who your market is and how best to reach them. In order to determine who your target market is, analyze your clientele to see who the majority of them are. Once you have determined that, you will then have a better idea as to how to reach your desired market. You want to make your marketing as effective as possible, so know the direction you should head in before you start.
2. Branding
Making others remember who you are is another key concept to marketing. This is done by coming up with a slogan or a memorable logo that can be embedded on people’s minds. By branding your company, you can make a home in the mind of future customers who will think of you when they want the product or service that you offer.
Branding can also be done for an individual. This is important if you work for a company, yet are responsible for your client base. In this case, if you are allowed, come up with a catchy line that has to do with your name and business and then put that on everything that you hand out to your customers. Keep in mind that you are tying your name directly to your business, so be cautious of what else is out there that is tied to your name. Not only that, if you change your name for whatever reason, usually marriage for the ladies, that you will need to make the appropriate transition, hyphenate your existing and new last names, or continue to use your former name for business purposes.
3. Tracking
You should always keep track of where your new business is coming from. Doing this will help you to know what marketing is working and what isn’t. There is no need to dump money, time, and effort into a marketing campaign that is not bringing you any leads when the money could be put to better use in the marketing that is working. You know where your money is coming from and as such you should know where it is coming from so that you can continue to generate that revenue.
Often times it is found that former customers of yours have passed your information on. If that is the case, then it would be in your best interest to reward your loyal customers with some sort of gesture of thanks, even if it is simply a thank you card. A note of caution; make sure that you know the laws of your state when it comes to gifting and business before you implement a referral program.
The process of marketing your business is difficult to navigate through. The most important thing to know is the basic workings of marketing. Know who you need to reach, make them aware of who you are, and know where your new business is coming from. Once you get that down, you can build your marketing strategies from there.
